Starting from September 1st, professor Anders Östman is a new employee at Swedesurvey. Anders has a mixed background, from academy as well as private industry. In 1978, Anders was graduated as a Land Surveyor at KTH in Stockholm. But his research interest was quite strong already at that time, so he continued his studies there and earned a PhD degree in Photogrammetry in 1986. Mr. Anders Östman then went to Intergraph where he worked with sales support and major installation projects. In 1993, Anders was appointed as a professor at the Luleå University of Technology, followed by another professorship in Gävle in 2004. But now Anders has returned to the consulting sector, a move he finds extremely inspiring. But Anders has not lost his contact with academic research entirely. "I still have a 25 % position as professor at the University of Gävle and a research project related to SDI testing", he says. During his startup phase at Swedesurvey, professor Anders Östman will attend SDI conferences in Split, Skopje and Moscow and present papers related to SDI, data quality and metadata. Mr. Anders Östman has for a long time had special interest in these subjects. He says: "I am very happy that I can continue working with these topics also in the future, at least to some degree."
