Dispatch from Kyiv

Ukraine is restructuring its cadastre and land registration, and Swedesurvey is lucky enough to be involved. We are three people in place from Swedesurvey, the author of these words and two consultants with whom we have worked many times during the years, Lars Karlsson and Sven Hilding. It is very reassuring to be surrounded by such professional and experienced colleagues.
An important part of the reform is that registration of rights to land will be unified with registration of rights to buildings, apartments and other immovable property objects. This might ease the burden of bureaucracy. Cadastre and cartography, on the other hand, will be separated from registration of rights to immovable property. In this way Ukraine chooses a separate path from many other European countries. A rather good cadastre law has been drafted that will clarify the legal situation as soon as it is adopted.
Blogging should be about the blogger as well, shouldn’t it? It is always demanding to get a grip of the legislation in a country in only a few days. The reward is to be able to contribute to improvements, however small sometimes. But in this case we are hoping to make a big contribution as a part of a bigger consortium.
This is my first blog posting on www.swedesurvey.se and feel free to contact me on erik.petersson@swedesurvey.se with any thoughts or suggestions.
