Study Visit of Delegation from Croatia to Swedesurvey

We are pleased to welcome a delegation from Croatia this week.

They are Ms Nada Rendic-Greguric, Consultant from the Ministry of Justice, Mr Zeljko Bacic, Director of State Geodetic Administration, Mr Marinko Bosiljevac, Assistant Director, Mr Ivan Landek, Assistant Director, Mr Zlatko Medic, Assistant Director, and Mr Damir Pahic, Assistant Director from SGA, Ms Jela Bilandzija, Project Director, Ms Sanja Vurin, Deputy Project Director and Mr Zvonko Nogolica, Deputy Project Director of the Project Implementation Unit.

This is the first of two planned visits and the purpose of it is to gain knowledge of Strategic Planning and Management in Land Administration. The focus will be on land administrative strategies and policies, including the importance of a good land administration system for the real property market and the development of a country and, strategies and methods for management of land administration and geographical information through financial management and budget systems, as well as organisation models for such.

During their stay in Sweden the delegation will also go to Norrtälje where they will visit the land registration office, a bank and the cadastral office. Finally they will visit the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

A total of 25 participants from 15 countries are attending the seminar "Strategic Planning and Leadership for Mapping and Land Information Organisations" between 12 – 23 May.

The seminar is designed by Swedesurvey. Lectures will be given not only by staff from Swedesurvey but also by other external experts and guest speakers. In addition to the study programme Swedesurvey will arrange excursions and visits to places of interest and other social activities.

Seminar leader this year is Mr Kjell Vikman.

Swedesurvey successful in Belize again

Swedesurvey AB of Gävle in partnership with Finnmap of Helsinki and GFA Terra Systems of Hamburg was also awarded the second component of the Land Management Program in Belize.

A contract for the Consultancy services for Aerial Photography and Mapping for four urban areas was signed in Belmopan in April 2003. The awarding of this contract to the Swedesurvey consortium is a very positive sign for us and a clear indication that we are competitive in the Central American market.

Digital color orthophotos give valuable information to Buffalo City Municipality

The Mayor of Buffalo City, Mr. Sindisile Maclean, receives the first scene of the delivery by Mr. Christer Kjörneberg, Swedesurvey.
The project is a turn key delivery and includes hardware, software and a full coverage of high resolution orthophotos of the Municipal land area. The new municipal boundary for Buffalo City extend over 2500 square kilometre and the dataset comprises of more than 360 digital colour scenes with a resolution of 0.25 M.

The orthophotos will be very useful to get information about the rural and semi-urban areas, where little data is found currently. They will also be included in the GIS Intranet and combined with the geodata already available, they will constitute a most valuable source of information. The project has been financed by Buffalo City and Sida on a cost sharing basis. The services have been carried out by technical professional personnel from Swedesurvey. The aerial photography was carried out using the recourses at Swedesurvey's regional office in Johannesburg/Port Alfred and the digital orthophoto mapping has been produced at Swedesurvey's head office in Sweden.

Swedesurvey awarded contract in Croatia

A delegation from the Project Implementation Unit visiting the State Land Cadastre and Register in Lithuania together with Swedesurvey´s Project Manager, Mr Lars Karlsson.
Swedesurvey has been awarded a prestigious contract for comprehensive capacity building in Croatia. The contract amounts to 630 000USD and will last for ten months, starting from April 2003.

The project will support the upcoming World Bank project - Real Property Registration and Cadastre Project - by providing advanced preparatory training activities for staff at the Project Implementation Unit and staff from the central level at both the State Geodetic Administration and the Ministry of Justice.

The project objectives are to have built sufficient capacity at all these levels in order to establish a team capable of carrying out the five-year World Bank project efficiently and also act as leading organisations within the land administration sector in Croatia.

Continued Support to the Republic of Armenia

In 1999 Swedesurvey was awarded a contract to contribute to the establishment of a Land Market in the Republic of Armenia (RoA). The project was called "The Development of the Cadastral System in Armenia" and the actual work started in the spring of 2000. The project components included land consolidation, aerial photograhpy, geodesy, digital cadastral index maps, valuation, training and study tours to Sweden.

The cooperation with the responsible authorithy in the Republic of Armenia, the State Committee of the Real Property Cadastre (SCC) has been smooth and fruitful and both parties are interested to continue the works. A second phase is just about to start and will be finalised in 2006. The continous support will focus on Land and Real Property Registration. It will also include geodesy (first order network), land consolidation, valuation, training and study tours. Sida (the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) is financing the project.

The first input of the second phase will be a seminar and workshop on registration in Yerevan April 10-11 with representatives from the SCC, the World Bank, UNDP and Swedesurvey.
