High level delegation from Ghana

Swedesurvey/ Lantmäteriet recently hosted a VIP-delegation from Ghana. The delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, Hon. Abraham Dwuma Odoom and the Metro Chief Executive of Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. Stanley Adjiri Blankson. The visit took place in Gävle and Stockholm between the 11th – 18th of June.

The focus of the visit was issues on land administration; including handling of land and geographical information, the interaction between municipalities and Lantmäteriet and the use of land and geographical information in municipal activities. Also environmental questions were included in the one-week visit with a special focus on waste management and turning waste to energy.


Besides visiting Lantmäteriet the delegation also visited Gävle Municipality including a number of municipal corporations working in the area of waste management, the County Administrative Board in Gävle, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency as well as the Swedish Association for Municipalities.

The visit was included in the on-going UMLIS project in Ghana, a project with an objective to design, develop and implement an urban management land information system for a selected pilot area in Accra, Ghana.

New Assignment in Indonesia

With a view to strengthening land administration in Indonesia, a twinning arrangement has been agreed on between the National Land Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BPN) and Lantmäteriet (the National Land Survey of Sweden). BPN is the governmental agency responsible for land administration. The headquarters are in Jakarta and there are 40 provincial offices, in addition, there are 400 local offices in different types of municipalities. BNP has a staff of 26 000 of whom approximately 900 work in Jakarta.

The project, 'Institutional Partnership Strengthening Land Administration' (IPSLA), will provide technical support with the aim of developing improved methods and organisations in order to provide the public with effective service and to broaden cooperation among official institutions working with land administrative issues. The project objective is to make land ownership and land rights more transparent for the benefit of the poor in particular, many of whom are women or minorities. The project is supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
The contract for the first three years was signed in Jakarta, 24 May , 2006 by Mr. Chairul Basri Achmad, Deputy of Land Information, BPN and Mr. Christer Kjörneberg, Swedesurvey/National Land Survey of Sweden and was witnessed by BPN senior management staff.

Training in Land Administration for Sida programme

A group of 25 physical planners and land surveyors from Sub-Saharan countries are visiting Lantmäteriet/Swedesurvey between May 15-19. Besides general information about Lantmäteriet, the group is briefed on LIS, GIS, Orthophotos and a selection of applications. A large portion of the visit is spent on discussions and sharing experiences of different ways of upgrading informal settlements. The programme is managed by KTH (the Royal Institute of Technology) in Stockholm where the participants will continue their projects and training, focused on improving settlements with large portions of disadvantaged people.

Technical officers from ALAGaC

In the on-going institutional cooperation between Lantmäteriet and the Administration of Land Affairs, Geodesy and Cartography of Mongolia (ALAGaC) a team of 19 technical officers from ALAGaC is visiting Lantmäteriet in Gävle 24 April - 7 May for a workshop in Land Administration and Geographical Information. The program comprises various subjects like NSDI, valuation, mapping, e-commerce, etc. Visits will be made to the Land Registration and Cadastral Authorities in Mora, bank and real estate agent, and the Environmental Protection Agency in Stockholm. The Head of the Delegation is Mr Zagd Bataa, Specialist, Geodetic and Cartographic Division, ALAGaC. The activity is included in the Sida supported agreement between Swedesurvey and ALAGaC.

Mongolian delegation visits Gävle

Swedesurvey is hosting a visit by a delegation from Mongolia comprising 5 officers from ALAGaC (Administration of Land Affairs, Geodesy and Cartography) and 7 lecturers from three universities. The officers are attending to practicals in a study program for a masters degree in Geomatics at the University of Gävle. The studies are mainly undertaken through distance learning (e-learning). The Programme for the GIT in Land Management and Geodetic Instruments and Digital Photogrammetry courses is implemented at the University of Gävle, April 17 - 28, 2006, by Dr Stig-Göran Mårtensson and Dr Anders Brandt. This activity is included in the ongoing development cooperation project between ALAGaC and Swedesurvey funded by Sida. It is a 2 year program which started in June 05.
