Officials from Mongolia


In the Project "Capacity Building in Human Resources Development to Strengthen the Land Administration Sector in Mongolia" a team of 7 officials from the Ulaanbaatar Municipality are visiting Sweden 16 - 21 October 2006.

The topics are the Swedish Governance system, Lantmäteriet, the Swedish NLIS and urban development and planning. The team will visit Lantmäteriet in Gävle and the municipalities of Gävle and Uppsala. The team is headed by the Chairman, Department of Urban Development, Ministry of Construction & Urban Development, Mr. B. Batbold.

Programme in Urban Land Administration


During September 4 – 29, 2006 a four week programme in “Urban Land Administration” is held in Gävle, Sweden in the premises of of Lantmäteriet, the National Land Survey of Sweden, and Swedesurvey. The 25 course participants represent the following countries: Bolivia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mongolia, Namibia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Tanzania, Vietnam and Zambia.

The main purpose of the programme is to give professionals in developing countries policies and methods to initiate change processes and development in their organisations and scope of work combined with a deepened knowledge of implementing or improving cadastral and land information system and practical experience of available methodology and technology.

Lantmäteriet in cooperation with Swedesurvey has designed the programme and is responsible for management and implementation. A second phase of the programme will be held in Nairobi, in March 2007.

International Award given to Swedesurvey’s Client, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board in the Philippines

The Award was presented at the ESRI’s 26th Annual User Conference held in San Diego, August 7–11, and is being given to users around the world in recognition of their outstanding work in the GIS field. It is a significant evidence of HLURB’s continuous effort to encourage the LGUs in the Philippines to use effective planning tools such as GIS. The Conference is a massive gathering of GIS practitioners all over the world and was attended by more than 14,000 attendees from more than 180 countries. During the Conference, the Project Leader, Ms. Ulep read a paper and there was also a display about the Project, nicknamed as ‘The GIS Cookbook for LGUs’ and Swedesurvey has been given the responsibility to assist HLURB in the preparation of the guidelines how to use GIS in comprehensive land-use planning. The project is sponsored by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). The Project Technical Adviser has been Mr. Kjorneberg from Swedesurvey. He has also assisted the Buffalo City Municipality in South Africa that was awarded 2004.
