Planning for a Greener Philippines

GO GREEN: Planning for a Greener Philippines

The Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners held its National Convention on November 10-11, 2006. One of the paper presenter was Mr. Christer Kjörneberg, Swedesurvey, currently assisting Housing and Land Regulatory Board in the preparation of the CLUP GIS Cookbook (See http://www.swedesurvey.se/workingworldwide/philippines.html )

Kjörneberg focused on the Swedish Model for Greening the Environment through the national environmental policy, which was adopted 1999 by the Swedish Parliament, and aims to hand over to the next generation a society in which the major environmental problems currently facing the country, have been solved. It is a matter of ensuring that our children and grandchildren and generations to come are able to live their lives in a rich natural environment, free from toxic substances, and in a society based on sustainable development. Cooperation between different stakeholders in society - individuals, companies, organizations and authorities - is also seen as very important in achieving the objectives. Further, the speech outlined how the environment is monitored and protected by protocols, authorities and actions but also uncovers the Swedes' true passion for nature and wildlife.
