From December 1997 to February 2000 Swedesurvey survey ran a Tacis financed project in Uzbekistan.
The overall objective of the project was to assist the Government of Uzbekistan in developing the basis for a National Real Property and Title Registration System.

The work included a review and analyses of institutions and information needs, institutional responsibilities, and legislation. Suitable hardware and software to be used for land and real property registration was selected and tested in some model land registry offices, which were set up in three pilot areas on Tuman (municipal) level. Recommendations were given for the development of a national real property registration system.

A National Land Information Centre was established at the Uzgeodescadastre headquarter in Tashkent. Production of cadastre index maps was started in the three pilot areas. A Cadastre Training Centre was established at the Tashkent Technical School of Geodesy and Cartography. The Training Centre established, staffed and equipped with computers, AV equipment and training programmes were produced.

Training in various aspects of land and real property registration was given to a number of trainers at the Training Center and to all staff working at the pilot land registration offices.

Curricula for training courses for staff in registration offices outside the three pilot areas and other staff were developed. Curricula for training in juridical, economical and technical subjects were developed and included in the ordinary training of students at the school.

Finally a publicity campaign was carried out for dissemination of the project results to the public and officials on local, regional and central level.
